Teaching Philosophy

With every student, the goal is to achieve technical and musical excellence while maintaining a positive learning environment. Each student has a unique learning style, strengths, and desires. They also find different things challenging. While the overall outcomes and goals for all students are the same - the journey to those goals is individually tailored for each student. Amy has developed unique teaching style that is tailored to the student's need and learning styles.

While performance and increased ability is a part of musicianship, good practice habits and engaging material without the pressure or fear of disapproval contribute to a positive experience.

Attendance Policy

While consistent attendance at lessons is important, illness and emergencies are realities of life. Holidays and vacations are amazing opportunities that should not be missed.

At Amy's Studio, when you book a time slot or class that time is kept for you.  For illnesses or emergencies- 1 on 1 lessons, reschedules are not usually available; for classes, if there is another class that works in your schedule you can request a hop-in as a reschedule.  For vacations - 1 on 1 lessons, if there is enough advanced notice, reschedules may be available; for classes, if there is another class that works in your schedule you can request a hop-in as a reschedule.

No shows or same day cancellations outside of emergencies (the emergency label includes illnesses) cannot be rescheduled.

Your First Lesson

It is important to check the fit of the personality of the teacher and student so at Amy's Studio we offer a free first lesson, often called a meet and greet lesson or a trial lesson.

Parents are asked to attend the lesson with their student. The goal of the first lesson is to understand the goals, background, level, and learning style of the student.  This information is essential to forming an individualized curriculum and approach.

If you have taken lessons before, please bring your instrument and whatever materials you worked on with your previous teacher. If you are a beginner and coming for instrumental lessons, please bring a working instrument.

Amy can provide recommendations on where to find/rent an instrument, as well as which accessories you need for it; please let us know in advance and we will send you this information.
